Aerial Fire Fighting International Conference 2016 recap

Recently, Bad Wolf Technologies was honored to attend the Aerial Fire Fighting International Conference 2016.  We were able to talk about our new products including the Red Hawk HD and discover great new technology in the Helicopter and aviation world.

The Aerial Fire Fighting International Conference is an important international conference that is the only global assembly point for international aerial firefighters to liaise, develop and promote international best practice in the discipline of manned and unmanned helicopter, SEAT and air tanker operations for the suppression of wildfires. It facilitates and enhances interagency exchange, demonstrates the latest aerial technologies in both a static and live setting, and maintains the vital liaison between international partners in the aerial firefighting community. Since its last staging in this region in 2014, there has been some dramatic and disastrous wildfires. In the United States, the largest wildfire of these was Carlton Complex Fire, the most destructive in Washington’s state history which consumed approximately 300 homes and 252,000 acres (102,000 ha). Latin America has not escaped the alarming results of wildfire either. Both Chile & Argentina have experienced their worst fires in years.

What is the difference between Motion Imagery and Full Motion Video?

Lately, some of our competitors, especially with similar looking units by similar names, are now using the term FMV. This is rather imaginative, since the technology used by them is not KLV Metadata STANAG 4609 compliant. The following explains why “FM” or “Full Motion Video” term should not be used. This text has been copied from the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence website: http://www.gwg.nga.mil/misb/faq.html#section1.4

What is the difference between Motion Imagery and Full Motion Video?

Motion Imagery is a sequence of Images, that when viewed (e.g. with a media player) must have the potential for providing informational or intelligence value. This implies the Images composing the Motion Imagery are: (1) generated from sensed data, and (2) related to each other both in time and in space. Some sensed data, such as Visible Light and Infrared, can be used directly to form Images, while others, such as SAR and LIDAR, require a conversion to a viewable Image. To satisfy the time and space relationship the capture time (i.e. the time the Image was taken) of each successive Image must be sequentially in order and the space relationship between each successive Image must have some recognizable visual overlap with the previous Image.

Full Motion Video (FMV) is a term used within the military and intelligence communities. As used, FMV implies a very narrow subset of Motion Imagery; one that assumes geo-spatial metadata, commercial image formats and playback rates. FMV has no formal definition and conveys different meanings to different communities; therefore, the term FMV should not be used in any contractual language.

Introducing the new Power Control Module (PCM)

PCM1Bad Wolf Technologies is proud to introduce our new Power Control Module (PCM) for the AirKnight HD  Digital Video Recorders. The PCM is specifically designed as a power management system for the AirKnight HD recorders which will serve as a power backup source to prevent file corruption in the event of power failure, and provide a steady and clean power source.

The PCM allows the system to operate as a black-box recorder without any user interaction. The AirKnight HD recorders can be configured to start recording upon system boot. In the event of the power loss, the PCM will take over and begin supplying power to the recorder and the cameras. If after 5 seconds the power is not back, the PCM will stop recording the video and wait for the power to return. If the power does not come back within 20 seconds, then the PCM initiates the system shutdown procedure. Another benefit of using the PCM is when the AirKnight HD are installed in conjunction with the MultiView HD or the Double Vision HD products, the power protection is extended to them as well. The PCM by any other word is a highly intelligent Uninterruptible Power Supply that keeps your system working to 100% of its capacity.

POWER MODULE CONTROL FEATURES:

  • Mil-Spec ms-type Power Input and Output Connectors
  • Rugged Aluminum Enclosure with Mounting Brackets
  • 8-bit High-Speed Microprocessor
  • 2700mAh Replaceable Battery Pack
  • Thermal Runaway Protection in accordance with the FAA guidelines
  • Overcharge Protection in accordance with the FAA guidelines
  • Over-voltage Protection in accordance with the FAA guidelines
  • Battery “kill” Mechanism (in case of a malfunction/short in the battery pack)
  • Ultra-high Speed seamless switch-over from the main power to the battery, and vice versa.
  • LED visual status indication if the battery is in use or is being charged.
